Food is Love through a Special Service Project
A special project of baked treats and notes of encouragement brings joy to the residents of Emerge.
When Lindsey Person, Senior Vice President with Alpha Phi Omega inquired about and volunteer projects at Emerge, she was connected with our Director of Philanthropy, Elaine Bonner. Together they decided that baked treats and notes of encouragement would be a nice surprise for the residents at Emerge.
“We certainly appreciate how this group came together to offer these home-made treats for the men residing at Emerge. It is not something they get to enjoy very often,” said Elaine
Alpha Phi Omega is a national, gender inclusive service fraternity based on the principles of Leadership, Friendship, and Service. Their goal is to promote service to the campus and surrounding community, all the while creating student leaders and fostering meaningful fellowship. We are associated with the Boy Scouts of America and are sponsored at UD by Campus Ministry. We currently have 55 active members in our fraternity.
“Members of Alpha Phi Omega absolutely loved getting to learn about Emerge Recovery and Trade Initiative and really enjoyed making baked goods and writing notes of encouragement,” said Lindsey Person. “Alpha Phi Omega participates in many different service activities, but we have never done a project like this before. It was refreshing and exciting to try something new where members could be creative in the kitchen for a great cause!”
From cookies, muffins, bars, and cupcakes, the selection of dozens and dozens of treats were greatly appreciated.
“The guys all loved them. There was a certain “sandwich” cookie that was a crowd favorite! Most of all, they were very appreciative that a group thought of them, said Mich Adams, Recovery Housing Operations Coordinator.
