Reflections from Rachel

It's hard to believe another month has gone by! The Emerge team has been working hard to get programs and processes into place while keeping operations moving forward. We have expanded community outpatient services to include mental health counseling, anger management, mental health day treatment, and more. We are looking forward to continued expansion to serve the needs of our community.

God has blessed us with so many good people and things happening here. We have our challenges like anyone else, but the glue that keeps us together is knowing that God put us here for His greater purpose to serve and be used in ways that glorify Him. This month we are encouraged by Paul who wrote in Galatians 6:9, "Let us not grow weary in doing good, for the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up".

In my life outside of work, I spend many of my weekends at swim meets. My 16 year old daughter, Maeley, has been swimming competitively year-round since she was 7 years old. Swimming is a great sport; some of it comes naturally but to get faster it requires dedication, training, and skill. Sometimes swimmers can have a streak of dropping time every time they swim. However, sometimes they can go months and even years without dropping time. Swimmers never reach a certain time in an event and are satisfied with stopping there; they are constantly trying to beat their own best times. I was blessed to be able to watch Maeley compete at the high school division I state championship this past month for Xenia High School.

ο»ΏIt's amazing how hard these kids work and how many years it can take to get to that level to go swim for just less than a couple of minutes; but what joy it brings them to accomplish something like that which they know they worked so hard for. Just like people in recovery, sometimes we can accomplish goals quickly but other times it seems to take years to accomplish things. If we persevere, stay dedicated, and train it gets easier over time. We build up the tools and supports needed to thrive if we are intentionally trying to do better each day. Some days we fail and that is okay. As my preacher says, "fail falling forward".

Success Story at Emerge!

ο»Ώ

β€œWhen I was living in active addiction, using needles every day, I saw only death ahead of me. . . What a horrible existence. Today, I wake up feeling grateful to be alive, and grateful to have found such a wonderful place with such wonderful people here at Emerge Recovery & Trade Initiative. Today, I wake up and thank God every morning. My life is so much better today.” - Nathan Willis
