    A Heart for Service

    Back to Blog

Legacy Christian Academy recently demonstrated the power of service, creativity, and community engagement through a student-led business project that resulted in a meaningful gift to Emerge Recovery & Trade Initiative.

As part of their Business classes, students created and sold Teacher Trading Cards—a fun, entrepreneurial initiative designed to build school spirit while teaching real-world business skills. Designed like baseball cards, each card featured a teacher's hobbies, education, and time at LCA. The cards were sold in packs of three for one dollar, and strong participation allowed the class to donate 50 percent of their profits to charity.

After researching several nonprofit organizations in the Xenia community, the students chose Emerge as the recipient of their project and presented a $500 donation. Our CEO, Rachel Huffman, had the opportunity to visit with the students, hear about their process firsthand, and thank them personally for their generosity and heart behind the effort.

The class shared that they were especially drawn to Emerge's Christ-centered mission, focus on healing, and commitment to walking alongside individuals as they rebuild their lives and pursue long-term stability and purpose.

"Our goal was to give students hands-on experience with entrepreneurship while helping them see how business can be a force for good. The students took real ownership of this project—from design to sales to choosing a nonprofit partner—and I'm incredibly proud of how thoughtfully they approached giving back to our community." — Amy Pickens, Business Class Teacher at Legacy Christian Academy

"We are deeply grateful for the generosity and heart shown by the students at Legacy Christian Academy. Their willingness to learn, serve, and give back reflects strong character and leadership. This gift is more than a donation—it's a reminder that young people can make a powerful impact in their community." — Rachel Huffman, CEO of Emerge Recovery & Trade Initiative

Emerge Recovery & Trade Initiative provides an integrated continuum of care that includes behavioral health treatment, recovery housing, workforce training, and supportive services, helping individuals move from crisis to stability and purpose.

We extend heartfelt thanks to the students, teachers, and staff at Legacy Christian Academy for their creativity, compassion, and commitment to serving others. We are truly encouraged by this next generation of leaders and their heart for making a difference.
